lu and henry's matrimonial shindig

just some fun things to do!

check out our wedding favor gallery!

these wedding favors were made from some leftover spice jars from henry's parents' house. the plants in them are rooted cuttings from three plants in lu and henry's house: a pothos that henry got as a gift from natalie, a pothos that lu grew from a cutting taken from his old housing nonprofit job, and an inch plant lu and henry bought at a yard sale. each one is different and special, just like you!

plant care instructions:

that's it! don't forget to upload a picture of your plant in your house here.

take a look inside our time capsule!

we aren't really ring wearers, so instead, we built a time capsule at our wedding ceremony. henry picked three secret things and lu picked three secret things and we revealed them to each other at the wedding ceremony.

the box
mouse over the image to see inside! lu found the box at goodwill. after a long search for a box big enough to plausibly fit his picks to put in the time capsule and henry's (that he hadn't seen yet), it was in the very last place he thought to look. apparently, it originally housed wine accessories, but there was no sign of them upon buying it. they decoupaged the lid with cutouts from old issues of the herb quarterly and american bee journal, pilfered from a local little free library.
the letters
in place of vows, we wrote letters about what we appreciate about each other, what we've learned together, and what we hope the future holds for us to each other to read at our wedding ceremony.
dictionary
the first of henry's picks. sometimes it sounds like lu and henry are speaking their own language. what is a brecho (pretzel)? what is a shroomington (mushroom)? henry put this dictionary together so we can write down the definitions of all of the words and phrases we've come up with over the years, and will continue to come up with! that way we'll always be able to translate.
first aid kit
the second of henry's picks. mouse over to see the outside of the box. lu taught henry how to care for their clothes, as henry is notorious for staining shirts and putting holes in sweaters (including lu's). henry decided to create a first aid kit, doubling as a mending kit and a kit for a broken heart. with time, our clothes are bound to unravel, just as we are bound to make mistakes and hurt each other, but with the cashmere iron-on band aids, and the heart patch henry wove with our darning loom, we have the opportunity to heal these wounds! while the heart patch can close up a hole in a garment, it also serves as a reminder that henry loves lu!
mousies
the third of henry's picks. mouse over (haha, get it?) to see them packed up. henry handsewed miniature versions of the outfits that they and lu wore for their wedding for these mouse dolls from maileg. the mice also have a special meaning, since lu used to keep mice (four of them: winnie, penelope, molly, and nadine). lu told henry that taking care of mice helped remind him to also take care of himself. henry hopes that taking care of these miniature mouse versions of themselves over the years will also remind them to take care of each other and their relationship.
apple and orange
the first of lu's picks. mouse over to see the bag, a special contribution from our friend apollo. shortly after moving into their first apartment (the e 8th st. place in davis), lu and henry went to an estate sale around the corner and received this little wooden apple. inside it are eight fortune cookie fortunes from shanghai garden, the chinese restaurant around the corner from their current apartment, where they ate with friends after their legal marriage ceremony on august 29, 2025. henry bought the orange candle from the san francisco asian art museum gift shop for lu's 26th birthday. it smells really good and it's almost too cute to burn, so lu thought to save it for a special time. the apple and the orange are a reminder of how, although lu and henry can be quite different from each other, they can still make many nice memories together!
letters to our future selves
the second of lu's picks. this is a book containing ten letter prompts and two blank letters to write now and read in the future. as we embark on a journey toward the rest of our lives as a married couple, we'd like to leave some notes to self to remind our future selves of what it was like to experience this part of our lives, just getting on our own two (four?) feet together.

the prompts are as follows:
  1. these are my roots...
  2. where i want to go
  3. all the things i'd like to try someday...
  4. this is what i live for...
  5. it was an extraordinary day...
  6. i promise to myself...
  7. there's no place like home...
  8. a pep talk for the furture me...
  9. this is a letter about my love...
  10. i never want to forget this...
pu-erh cake
the third of lu's picks. mouse over for the pu-erh cake in action at our very first gongfu tea session (featuring tea set from tricia and tea pet from apollo). this is a stone-pressed cake of raw pu-erh tea leaves from ba da mountain in yunnan, china. for those unfamiliar with pu-erh cakes, this is very high quality tea that can be aged for a more complex taste like a nice bottle of wine. pu-erh cakes from relevant years are often given as gifts for milestone birthdays or anniversaries. lu bought this one, harvested during the springtime tea harvest of 2025, to commemorate the wedding. he hopes that, as we open the time capsule throughout the years, we can take a moment to share some tea, look over all our memories in the box, and see how the flavor of the tea has grown and changed with us.

leave us a note in our electronic guestbook!

let's try it!

or give us a song to listen to.

sure, i'll give it a shot!

if you're coming to the wedding and you...
